About QFX to QBO

Convert a bank's QFX or OFX download to a .qbo file in your browser. The converter rewrites the file header and fills in the identification fields you confirm. For OFX 1.x SGML, transaction and balance blocks keep their original bytes. For OFX 2.x XML, the text values are preserved while the syntax changes to SGML. FITIDs are not regenerated, transactions keep their order, and amounts and balances are not recalculated.

Review the institution fields — ORG, FID and INTU.BID — and the account details before converting. Existing values are shown for you to keep or correct; missing values must come from your bank's Web Connect information. The converter does not guess them.

Before you convert, a check panel reports what was found: accounts and their type, number of transactions, date range, money in and out, and the source format. After converting, the written file is read back to compare accounts, transactions, totals and balances; SGML sources also receive a byte comparison of their transaction and balance blocks. Download is enabled when these checks pass. These local checks do not confirm that QuickBooks will accept the file. Everything runs inside your browser tab: no file content is uploaded or saved in browser storage. The converter is free with no row limit; QuickBooks upload limits still apply.

How to convert QFX to QBO

  1. Download the Quicken (.qfx) or OFX file from your bank and drop it into the converter. It is read in your browser; no copy is sent anywhere.
  2. Read the check panel: accounts found, account type, transaction count, date range, totals in and out, and whether the file is OFX 1.x or 2.x.
  3. Confirm the identification fields — ORG, FID, Intuit bank id, account number, account type and routing number. Values already in the file are kept; pick a bank preset or type the rest yourself.
  4. Convert. The file header is rewritten to the QuickBooks format and the transactions are carried over unchanged, then the result is read back and reconciled against the source.
  5. When the reconciliation table shows every row matching, download the .qbo. In QuickBooks Online go to Transactions, then Upload from file; in QuickBooks Desktop use File, Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a QFX and a QBO file?
Both use the Open Financial Exchange format. QFX is used for Quicken downloads, while .qbo is the file extension used by QuickBooks Desktop Web Connect. QuickBooks Online also lists QBO, QFX and CSV as upload formats. Changing the extension alone does not validate the contents or confirm that an import will succeed.
Is this QFX to QBO converter free?
Yes. There is no row limit, no sign-up and no watermark. Paid features (batch conversion of several files at once, saved column mappings, PDF statements) are planned and not built yet.
Do you upload my bank file to a server?
No. The conversion runs in JavaScript inside your browser tab. You can disconnect from the network after the page loads and it still works.
Why does QuickBooks reject my QFX download?
It depends on which QuickBooks you use. Intuit's help for QuickBooks Online lists QBO, QFX and CSV as upload formats, each file at most 350 KB and 1,000 lines. QuickBooks Desktop Web Connect reads only .qbo files. If a file is refused, check the error shown by your QuickBooks edition and compare its institution and account fields with the Web Connect information supplied by your bank. A successful local conversion does not guarantee a successful import.
Will importing twice duplicate my transactions?
The converter preserves FITID values and transaction order; it does not remove duplicate transactions. How QuickBooks treats a second upload is decided by QuickBooks, not by this tool. Review the imported transactions after any overlapping upload. If the file itself repeats a FITID, the check panel warns you before you convert.
