About QBO to QFX
People move in both directions. A bookkeeper closes the books in one product and a client tracks the same account personally in another; a bank offers a Web Connect download but the person importing it uses Quicken. The file they have is a .qbo, and the file the software wants is a .qfx.
Underneath they are the same OFX document. The transactions, the account block and the balance line are identical; what differs is the identification tag that decides which program will accept the file. Converting QBO to QFX swaps that tag, writes the extension the importer looks for and leaves every date, amount, payee and memo exactly as it was. Transaction ids are preserved too, so an account you have already partly imported will match rather than duplicate.
It is worth knowing what this does not do. It does not unlock a subscription, forge an institution or make an unsupported bank supported — some versions of Quicken accept only files their own download service produced, and no conversion changes that. What it does is stop you retyping a statement because two products chose different three-letter extensions for the same format.
As with every converter here, the work happens in your browser. The file is read from your disk, rewritten in memory and handed back as a download; nothing is uploaded, kept or logged. Frequently asked questions
- Are QBO and QFX really the same format?
- Structurally, yes: both are OFX documents. The difference is the tag identifying which product may import the file, plus the file extension.
- Will Quicken definitely accept the converted file?
- Usually, but not always. Some releases only accept files issued by their own download service. If yours refuses the file, importing a CSV into it is the fallback.
- Do I need an active subscription for either product?
- The conversion needs nothing but a browser. Whether the destination program lets you import depends on that program's own licensing, which is outside this tool.
- Is anything uploaded during the conversion?
- No. Files are read and written locally in your browser tab.
